Re: Methodology - The Critic's Best Friend, and the Believer's Worst Nightmare.
Quote:I don't think they are correct just because of who they are. That is exactly what appeal to authority is. If anyone doesn't have an idea it is you for not realizing I'm correct. I've read enough of how they weigh the evidence to know if I want to trust them or not. And reputation as an educated expert does count some because of what they have to know to have the education they have. It counts with not having to read much more than their summaries. It also includes if their summaries are written in a way a recognized expert would write them.
And example would be something Ben wrote on his forum. I saw the word methodology and clicked on that discussion. He wrote the biggest bunch of hogwash that had nothing to do with a methodology. He wasn't in the ballpark. Anyone who knows about methodologies would know this person is out of his depth and doesn't have a clue. Opposed to if I read something and the person discusses methodologies correctly. I can read this persons conclusions and I know why they think and the process that got them there. I don't have to read every word in between. That is not appealing to authority. That is knowing things about them I don't have to read to have a very good idea about.
I think everyone can judge whether or not this forum is a good idea...
Amazon forums have no moderation worthy of the name, and egos run wild.
