The following was news to me, i.e., that the tape was a myth. However, this was written by Mel Ayton, who cited John McAdams as a source, so it must be true, no?

“...the myth that FBI agents listened to a tape recording of a “Lee Oswald” at the Soviet embassy during the assassin’s trip to Mexico City weeks before the assassination. The allegation that such a tape existed was debunked many years ago by HSCA. The story of the existence of tapes had originated with only one FBI agent out of many who handled the transcripts of the tapes because the tapes had been copied over as per the CIA’s usual procedures.” [10]

Help me out here. Was there or was there not a Mexico City tape that bore a voice that was not Oswald's? If it was debunked, where is the debunking apart from JFK Assassination Logic?

Well, first we have the conversation of Hoover - telling LBJ:

Then we have two Warren Commission staffers, William Coleman & David Slawson - who stated that they'd listened to a tape of Oswald in April of 1964 when they met with CIA Station Chief Winston Scott and other CIA officers in Mexico City.

How could the HSCA 'debunk' what has been firmly stated?

Now, yes; it's true that the CIA later tried to claim that the tapes had been "routinely" erased - but that doesn't square with the other evidence.

When a believer cites another believer, instead of the evidence, you know that there's a problem there. McAdams is lying when he claims a single FBI source...

The subject index I have for the HSCA says no... but I'll keep looking.

In reality, it doesn't matter, because I'm familiar with the underlying evidence, and if the HSCA said otherwise, they'd only be emulating the Warren Commission - who frequently drew "conclusions" contrary to the evidence they had.
